Description :
|
Mathieu de Layens, Sulpice de Forest and Jean II Keldermans built the town hall in the Late Gothic style in the mid 15C, during the reign of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy. The town hall needs to be studied from a distance to appreciate the vertical lines of this stone reliquary, elegantly carved with gables, turrets and pinnacles, dormers, and almost 300 alcoves containing 19C statues. The alcove corbels are decorated with small picturesque naive scenes illustrating biblical themes. [The Green Guide: Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Michelin Travel Publications, 2001, p. 227] |
